Following meetings with Nepean Referees Group, reviews of recent Incident Reports from both clubs and referees and after consultation with the Board of Directors on how to best address the rising number of issues surrounding the Technical Box areas, the following changes will be introduced around the location of Technical Boxes and Sidelines.
Effective from Friday 11th July, spectators will be restricted to occupying one sideline only on all fields at all venues.
On the opposite sideline to spectators, will be the marked or visible Technical Areas for both teams and the Referees Retreat area if the venue doesn’t have a dedicated Referees Room.
Marshals wearing the appropriate vests should be clearly visible on the spectator sideline.
Clarification Around Who Can Be In The Technical Box
Each Team May Have In Their Assigned Technical Box:
- One (1) x vested, registered COACH or stand in coach if the registered coach is absent. The name of the stand in coach must appear on the match sheet
- One (1) vested, registered MANAGER or stand in Manager, if the registered Manager is absent. The name of the stand in Manager must appear on the match sheet
- A maximum of five (5) vested SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS. Players must be listed on the match sheet as available to play.
Who is not allowed in a Technical Area/Box & where should they be?
- Assistant Coach, Trainer, Other Team Support Staff – Nepean FA in accordance with our Competition Regulations, only recognises One (1) Coach on Match Days, regardless of the role or contribution to the team of any other registered or non-registered support staff. People in this category must remain on the spectator sideline of the pitch

- Club Ground Official – Not allowed in Technical Area/non spectator side of the pitch unless present to resolve an issue. They may pass trough while conducting rounds, but must not remain in Technical Areas.
- Referee Assessors/Mentors & Referees appointed to previous or next match – Not allowed in Technical Areas. Must position themselves either in the Referee Retreat Area or on the Spectator Sideline. Referee Assessors and Mentors should visit venues in their NRG uniforms and inform club committee member/s when visiting a club.
